Rank: Mercenary
Dash Rendar at Hoth
First seen in The Expanded Universe
A mercenary friend of Lando Calrissian, Dash Rendar is a tall, lean
human with red hair, green eyes, and pale skin. He attended the
Acadmey on Carida, and was a year behind Han Solo. During his time
at the Academy, his brother Stanton accidentally crashed a transport
ship into one of Emperor Palpatine's Coruscant museums. The Emperor
was extremely upset about the damage, and confiscated the Rendar
family's wealth and holdings. They were banished from Coruscant,
and Dash was expelled from the Academy.
This left a bitter taste in Dash's mouth, and he turned to being
a smuggler, thief, and card shark to make money. He helped the Alliance
out by smuggling them food stores whenever possible. He helped Zak
and Tash Arranda escape from the Star of Empire after it had been
sabotaged by the Systems Infiltration Manager program. He once delivered
food to the base on Hoth, and was about to leave when the Empire
attacked.
He flew one of the Alliance's modified T-47s against the Imperial
AT-ATs during the Battle of Hoth, and was responsible for bringing
one of the walkers down. He was able to flee the planet in the ensuing
evacuation, but remained a smuggler rather than joining the Alliance
outright. He returned a favor he owed to Lando by checking out the
rumor that Boba Fett had stopped on Gall before delivering the frozen
body of Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt. |

name: Mako Spince
Rank: Traffic Controller
Mako Spince at Nar Shaddaa
First seen in The Expanded Universe
The son of an Old Republic Senator, Mako never wanted to rush things.
He led an aimless life that nearly got on track after the Clone
Wars. He knew that he had the talent to make it in the Academy,
but he put off applying until he had had enough fun on Corellia.
He met Han Solo at the Academy, and the two became known as pranksters.
Mako once tried to blast the seal of the Academy off its mascot
moon, but only succeeded in destroying the entire planetoid.
He was expelled immediately, and his family cut him off from any
inheritance. He used his contacts from the Academy to set himself
up as a smuggler, and encountered Solo again after Solo's expulsion
from the Academy. They worked for awhile out of Nar Shaddaa, until
Han decided to seek his fortune in the galaxy. Mako, meanwhile,
had been plying the smuggling lanes of the Ottega System. He wound
up on the wrong side of a battle with the Na-Quoit bandits, and
was permanently crippled in the battle. He returned to Nar Shaddaa,
where he took on work as a traffic controller. |

Rank: Smuggler
Platt O'Keefe at Anarid Cluster
First seen in The Expanded Universe
A well-known smuggler, she is also strikingly beautiful and intelligent.
She's hard to miss with her silvery white hair and penchant for
dressing in a white blouse and red pants, vest, and boots. Platt
Okeefe grew up on Brentalal, but eventually ran away from home and
signed on as a cabin steward aboard a Sullustan Starliner. She joined
a tramp freighter crew in the Anarid Cluster, and gained a lot of
experience as a spacer. Okeefe currently operates her own freighter,
the Last Chance. Easygoing, she often passes on advice to other,
less-experienced traders. |

name: Salla Zend
Rank: Smuggler
Salla Zend at Nar Shaddaa
First seen in The Expanded Universe
An old flame of Han Solo's during the early years of the New Order,
Salla Zend worked long and hard as a tech on a corporate transport
to save enough credits to float a loan from a Hutt to buy her own
ship. She started out as a normal merchant aboard the Rimrunner,
but somehow ended up as a smuggler. She often referred to her ship
as "he", bucking the centuries-old tradition of naming
ships after females.
It was during her career as a smuggler that she met Han Solo and
Shug Ninx. They made a number of runs together, smuggling spice
to the Stenness System and trying to outdo each other on the Kessel
Run. Then, during a routine solo run, the hyperdrive onboard the
Rimrunner failed. She would have crashed into a neutron star if
Solo hadn't saved her. However, her ship was lost. Note that Rebel
Dawn indicates that Salla lost the Rimrunner after she attempted
to beat Han during a Kessel Run.
She attempted to microjump across the Maw, and fried her ship's
systems upon re-entry. The experience left Salla deeply shaken,
and she took Roa's advice and decided to settle down. She told everyone
that she and Han were going to get married, and starting making
plans. Solo didn't want to get married, however, and he left her
on Nar Shaddaa. |

name: Talon Karrde (1)
Rank: Smuggler
Talon Karrde at Myrkr
First seen in The Expanded Universe
A smuggler and information broker, Karrde learned the ropes of smuggling
from Billey. It was during this period that Karrde discovered the
whereabouts of the Katana fleet by accident, when a botched operation
left his crew's ship in an uncharted area of space. After leaving
Billey's operation, Karrde became one of Jorj Car'das' most trusted
lieutenants.
When Car'das suddenly disappeared about five years before the Battle
of Endor, Karrde stepped in and took control of the operation. He
quickly solidifed his power base, surviving seven different assassination
attempts, four of which seemed to have Car'das behind them. Karrde
commanded a group of highly-skilled thieves and mercenaries from
his starship, the Wild Karrde. He more or less took control of most
of the galaxy's smuggling after Jabba the Hutt's demise, although
it was not a position he desired. He surrounded himself with the
best people he could hire, including Mara Jade and the young slicer
Ghent.
During the time when Grand Admiral Thrawn returned from the Unknown
Regions to harry the New Republic, Karrde found himself in the midst
of the struggle when he intercepted Luke Skywalker in an empty section
of space. He then hosted Han Solo and Lando Calrissian at his base
on Myrkr, but forced to abandon the base when Imperial forces raided
it. |
