8t88, a lowly calculation droid, coveted credits and wanted to be
more human, both odd characteristics of a droid. He also wanted
to be a bounty hunter. What was he thinking? He was hired by Jerec
to find Morgan Katarn and discover the location of the Valley of
the Jedi. He managed to steal Morgan’s journal disc and lead
Jerec to where the Valley was. 8t88 was then pursued across the
galaxy by Kyle Katarn, Morgan’s son, and finally Kyle retrieved
the disc but was unable to destroy 8t88. |

Battle Droid at Naboo
First seen in Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Battle droids were the main source of infantry and footmen for the
Trade Federation and later the Separatists during the Clone Wars.
Cheap and easy to mass-produce, they were deployed in amazing numbers
so that if needed the Federation could merely overcome opposing
forces by sheer force of numbers. Battle droids are expendable and
they aren’t programmed to fear so they go willingly to their
deaths. |

“Hello, my name is C-3P0, human cyborg relations. And this
is my counterpart, R2-D2. I am fluent in more than six million forms
of communication.” The famous line heard many a-time by the
prissy and sometimes annoying protocol droid. Threepio has been
around the galaxy more times than anyone, just about. He has seen
it all, has been through it all, and he still lives. He’s
had just a few “owners” since he fell into the hands
of Leia Organa all those years ago. He went from her, to Luke, and
back to her again. Simple as that. He served Leia in the New Republic
as, you guessed it, a protocol droid! He was with the crew during
the Galactic Civil war, the war at Bakura, the retaking of Coruscant,
and so many more battles, too many to mention in this space. He’s
taken quite a beating and had many buffs and re-platings, more than
any droid should have. And an unusual thing about him is that he’s
not had his memory banks wiped as is normal for a droid. He’s
kept his memories and harrowing tales stored in his memory banks
for years and years. He has been a great friend and companion to
many people throughout his long years in the spotlight. He even
helped during the Yuuzhan Vong crisis, because one of the dead languages
he had stored away in his memory banks was similar to the Yuuzhan
Vong tongue so he was able to translate for those who needed it.
That was a great help in defeating the Yuuzhan Vong. While he may
seem a small character and while he may grate on people’s
nerves, he is more important than a lot of people give him credit.

either deemed them worthy of service to the master and branded them

and/or used for spare parts. She was cruel and ruthless at her work
and showed no mercy, ever. |

FX-7 helped make possible some of the seeming miraculous medical
feats performed by 1B. Together they were a great medical team.

LE-BO2D9, or Leebo, is an early model of the Cybot Galactica repair
droid. Originally the property of the postmaster on Esseles, he
was aboard a ship that got stolen and he was sold for credits to
a failed comedian. He then found his way into the company of Dash
Rendar, smuggler. Leebo was a fair pilot and often took over the
controls of the Outrider while Dash was planetside conducting business.
Together Leebo and Dash had many fun adventures. Leebo almost always
had his tool bag slung around his shoulder. |

The Imperials used them mainly for message delivery in every single
one of their outposts and battleships, including the Death Star.
Generally, the little droids were disliked by the galaxy for various
reasons. |

Pit Droid at the race track
First seen in Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Pit droids are the bane of podracers because of their rather humorous
nature. They screw around with each other instead of performing
their tasks. But the pit droids can lift many times their own weight
so they make good tools for repairing the often bulky engines and
other parts of the podracers. And they are also efficient at performing
the repairs…if they ever get around to it. They are even known
for sending themselves through podracer engines for kicks. That’s
the other great thing about them: they’re extremely durable.
Not much can break a pit droid. Except for the little tap on the
nose, and they fold up, to perform no more interesting things until
they’re tapped on the nose again… |

R2-D2; the designation number itself conjures up images of the most
courageous little astro droid that anyone anywhere has ever heard
of. Facing great perils strapped in behind the pilot of a snubfighter,
this little droid has seen more action than many of the best pilots.
Artoo has been from one side of the galaxy to the other, along with
lifelong friend See-Threepio. Together, that droid pair is probably
the most famous team of droids anywhere, with a close second to
Bollux and Blue Max, but that’s for another time. Artoo has
been in the co-pilot seat in many different ships, including but
not limited to just about everything from an X-Wing to Mara Jade
Skywalker’s ship, the Jade Sabre. Artoo can fly just about
anything by himself and he can quickly speed up the hyperspace coordinates
because he’s had so much experience with it. Along with Threepio,
Artoo hasn’t had his memory banks wiped for many years, which
gives him his cute little personality that makes him such a lovable
little droid. And who doesn’t love Artoo… |
