Aks Moe at Malastare
First seen in Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace
A three-eyed goat-faced politician from Malastare, Aks Moe attempted
to stall Queen Amidala's bid to stop the Trade Federation invasion
of Naboo in the Galactic Senate. Moe, a bureaucrat to the core,
cited procedure when he seconded the motion that would have created
a commission to study the alleged attack. This move further illustrated
to Amidala the inefficiencies of the Senate, and prompted Amidala
to raise a Vote of No Confidence in Supreme Chancellor Valorum.
In the power vacuum that followed, one of Aks Moe's colleagues,
Ainlee Teem, was nominated to succeed Valorum. That office instead
went to Palpatine. Ten years into Palpatine's rule, Moe was no longer
the representative from Malastare. Instead, another similarly named
politician, Senator Ask Aak, held that office.

he knew it was a political impossibility. Though it was not his

emergency powers to save the Republic from this dire threat. |

At the time of their introduction, the Republic clone trooper represented
the future of galactic warfare. Far superior to the battle droid
armies of the era, the clone troopers formed the backbone of the
Republic's new military initiative that battled against the forces
of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Identical in form, physical prowess, stamina and mental capacity,
each of the first generations of clone trooper was grown in the
cloning facilities of Tipoca City, on the storm-drenched world of
Kamino. Within the hermetic confines of the secret facility, the
politically ambivalent Kaminoans applied their mastery of genetic
sciences to craft what they deemed the finest of clone armies.
The clone army was apparently commissioned by a Jedi, Sifo-Dyas,
a decade previous to their introduction on the battlefield. The
original source of genetic material was an extremely skilled bounty
hunter named Jango Fett. Using his genetic code as a template, the
Kaminoans carefully tampered with the material to produce clones
with diminished independence and accelerated growth. |

Palpatine was the supreme ruler of the most powerful tyrannical

to power, Palpatine was an unassuming yet ambitious Senator in the
Galactic Republic. Palpatine saw the Republic crumbling about him,
torn apart by partisan bickering and corruption. All too common
were those unscrupulous Senators taking advantage of the system,
growing fat and wealthy on a bureaucracy too slow to catch them.
Palpatine's moment of opportunity came as a result of a trade embargo.
The Trade Federation, in protest of government measures that would
tax their outlying trade routes, blockaded and invaded Naboo. Naboo's
planetary leader, Queen Amidala, rushed to Coruscant for Palpatine's
aid. Together, the two pleaded to the Senate for intervention, only
to see their request stalemated by Trade Federation filibustering.
Frustrated by the government's inability to do anything, Queen Amidala
acted upon Palpatine's suggestion, and called for a Vote of No Confidence

When Anakin was a toddler, Shmi and her son became the property

The negotiations failed as the Trade Federation attacked the ambassadors
before talks could even begin. Queen Amidala of the Naboo voyaged
to Coruscant to present her case to the assembled Senate. Valorum
was genuinely pleased to see the Queen alive, but he was of no help
in the Senate hall, where he had to abide by the proper bureaucratic
measures. |

Yarva at Kashyyyk
First seen in Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace
This wookie was Kashyyyk's main senator to the Old Republic during
the time before the Battle of Naboo. He despised the corruption
of the senate but he was unable to stop it from spreading. Just
before the Clone Wars began, he agreed to meet with the leader of
the Trandoshans in order to reach peace between the two peoples.
He ordered Trandosha to be blockaded after a number of Wookies were
killed aboard a transport near one of Trandosha's moons. The Trandoshan
gov't refused to return the bodies, and Yarua threatened to remove
Kashyyyk from the Republic if action was not taken or reparations
paid. Oppo Rancisis, a Jedi Master, oversaw peace talks between
the two peoples but they were interrupted by the Clone Wars. Throughout
the Clone Wars, Yarua remained with the Old Republic but his support
of the Cancellor was little. Yarua declined an invitation to join
the Separatists, stating that he would choose the path which was
most beneficial to the Wookies. |
