The former Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance was at least 100
years old, and had a mute Hupyrian servant, Maihar'du, constantly
at his side. The epitome of all that his race holds dear. Zek faked
his death in 2369 and named Quark his successor in order to test
the reaction of his son and heir apparent Krax -- as anticipated,
a disappointment. In 2375, Zek decided to retire and spend his old
age on Risa with Ishka, so he came to Deep Space 9 to name Rom as
his successor. |

Brunt has become obsessed with ruining Quark ever since he investigated
his mother's illegal profit-making in 2371, and a year later tried
to end up the illegal strike at Quark's bar by any means necessary.
In 2374 he manipulated his way to a brief tenure as Acting Grand
Nagus after all, when Zek was temporarily removed from office during
the uproar over the Ishka-inspired feminist reforms. That reign
too was cut brief after some furious politicking by Zek's camp with
one of the influential FCA directors, Nilva. |

the next kai after the position was vacated by Kai Opaka in 2369.
Bareil was favored to become the new kai in 2370, but withdrew from
the election when he became tied to the infamous Kendra Valley massacre.
Bareil worked as Kai Winn's advisor and spent several months setting
up peace talks with the Cardassians. Bariel was critically wounded
in an explosion shortly before the peace talks took place and died
just after the peace treaty was signed. |

causing suspicion from Sisko. The Changeling and a crewmember under
Sisko eventually died as a result of the distrust between Kilana
and Sisko. |

to prevent Bashir from finding a cure to the virus. |
